Who leads these extraordinary adventures with kids? Under Western Skies (UWS) wilderness camp staff guides undergo thorough local and national background checks and come highly recommended from previous youth program employers. Our guides are exceptional leaders, healthy lifestyle role models and teachers. All of our guides have previous experience leading kids in outdoor settings, are certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR), and have completed a minimum of 2 years of college and are age 21 or older. Under Western Skies employs mature, professional young men who are charismatic, fun, energized, organized, use positive communication, and above all are naturally geared for placing camper safety as the highest priority.
Under Western Skies - Adventure Camp Director

Andy Heath, Camp Director: Andy has been working traveling and playing in the great outdoors for 17 years. Originally from Ohio, he first moved to Wyoming when he was 19 and was blown away by the immense mountains, tranquil forests and endless wilderness the west had to offer. He has worked as a professional cowboy, outdoor educator and mountain guide throughout the western mountain states and Alaska. He is a three-time graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School, a Wilderness First Responder, swiftwater rescue technician, and a graduate of The Green Mountain Wilderness Survival School. Andy has over 6 years of wilderness teen leadership experience and has been employed by Alaska Alpine Adventures as a lead wilderness guide for the past 9 years. Andy Makes his home in Bozeman, Montana and brings a wealth of knowledge, silly enthusiasm and “wham dammy” wilderness camp cooking to every trip. He is looking forward to some adventures under western skies with you soon!
Under Western Skies – Employment
Under Western Skies Adventures is looking for extraordinary male role models for summer wilderness camps throughout Montana. We look for a minimum of two seasons experience working with kids preferably in a wilderness setting but not required. You must have a solid backcountry skill set. Be able to read a map and use a compass. Deal with stressful situations in adverse conditions and of course have an unlimited capacity for fun! UWS is unique in that we incorporate a form of exercise or group stretching (yoga or Tai chi) into every morning group session. Skills in Yoga, Tai chi or a form of meditative martial arts are very welcome and encouraged. We look for individuals over age 21 with a minimum current Wilderness First Responder certification, CPR and current drivers license with good driving record and clean background checks. Above all UWS is a dynamic action packed fun filled program where we encourage stewardship of not only the environment but community as well. We stress environmental ethics primitive wilderness skills and personal growth of our students and our employees. Sound interesting?
